You've heard of the Oscars, the Emmys and the Grammys. On Saturday, May 10, 2014, it's time to make way for the Poesies, the Third Annual Open Poetry Slam Competition, brought to you by Jitters Coffee House.
Poets, poetry lovers and those who are just plain curious, come take part in Millersburg's third annual family-friendly poetry slam, a high-energy performance poetry competition in three rounds, where competitors will face-off for special awards and cash prizes.

The evening will also include a panel of community judges and presentations by amazing guest performance poets. The competition is open to poets (and audience members!) of all ages and levels. Poets should prepare three original pieces--metered, free-verse, haiku, narrative, whatever floats your boat--each less than three minutes in length, in preparation for three rounds of competition judged on content and performance. Memorization is not necessary, but will greatly improve chances of winning. No preregistration required, sign up at the door 30 minutes prior to competition. A door charge of $5 ($3 for students) will be collected for both participants and audience members. www.thepoesies.com
